In 1979, Mr. Kurt Porter was working with a private school when he felt God calling him to begin a Christian school in Tuscaloosa. He opened American Christian Academy in the old Jemison School on the Rosedale Baptist Church property on Greensboro Avenue. There were about 40 students that first year. The school grew little by little until Mr. Porter decided to buy 10 acres of land and build the facility on Martin Luther King Blvd. in 1984. The building was financed through a bond sale to interested people in Tuscaloosa. The student enrollment grew to around 100 students in 1989
